Women's Aid England Launches Virtual Refuge
The virtual refuge was launched in March to co-incide with International Women's Day.
The Women's Aid website describes the site as:
'.. real-life images from a Women’s Aid refuge house and aims to reassure women escaping an abusive relationship of what to expect This complements the cartoon virtual refuge for children that Women’s Aid produced a last year on www.thehideout.org.uk., its dedicated website for children and young people'
Women’s Aid Chief Executive Nicola Harwin CBE said:
“For many women in violent relationships the thought of leaving their homes and going into refuge accommodation can be a frightening prospect . By launching this Women’s Aid online refuge, alongside other new Women’s Aid online information resources, we hope to reassure women and children affected by domestic violence that going into a refuge to be safe from abuse can be a positive and safe choice, where they will receive help and support from specialist staff. Abused women and their families need have full information about their options so that they can make informed decisions about their lives.”
